Advocacy

Guess what?  You are already an advocate!

Advocacy simply means speaking up, pleading the case of another, or championing a cause.  You may not previously have spoken with an elected official; instead it may have been with your child’s teacher or to your friend or neighbor.  Regardless, if you have voiced an opinion or provided new information to another person related to a cause or issue, you were an advocate!

Today, we ask you to advocate on behalf of your friends, family and community to influence public policy impacting healthy eating and active living.

”Why?” you ask?

According to the U.S. Surgeon General, obesity is the single greatest public health threat to the nation. In fact, poor nutrition and lack of physical activity are the second leading preventable causes of death in the United States AND in Colorado. While Colorado is among the leanest states, the prevalence of overweight and obesity in the state is rising in concert with national rates, putting a large portion of the population, including the people you care about, at risk for cardiovascular disease, diabetes, cancer, hypertension and asthma.

Together with you and our partners, LiveWell Colorado seeks to reverse these trends.

Join the Grassroots Advocacy Power Program and get involved today.

View our Policy Blueprints to learn how LiveWell Colorado is driving policy change across the state.
