LiveWell Colorado collaborates with many organizations in strategic partnerships to make more healthy eating and active living opportunities possible for Coloradans. Our work would not be possible without the generous support of our valued founding funders and partners.
Founding Funders and Partners
The Colorado Health Foundation works to make Colorado the healthiest state in the nation by investing in grants and initiatives to health-related nonprofits that focus on increasing the number of Coloradans with health insurance, ensuring they have access to quality, coordinated care and encouraging healthy living.
Kaiser Permanente Colorado is the state’s largest nonprofit health plan, providing comprehensive health care services to over 535,000 members through 26 medical offices and a network of affiliated hospitals and physicians. In 2011, Kaiser Permanente directed more than $90 million to community benefit programs to improve the health of all Coloradans.
The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment is one of 16 cabinet-level departments whose executive directors are appointed by the governor. The mission of the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment is to protect and preserve the health and environment of the people of Colorado. The department serves the people of Colorado by providing high-quality, cost-effective public health and environmental protection services. The department focuses on evidence-based best practices in the public health and environmental fields and plays a critical role in providing education to our citizens so they can make informed choices. In addition to maintaining and enhancing our core programs, we continue to identify and respond to emerging issues that could affect Colorado's public and environmental health.
Colorado Municipal League
LiveWell Colorado is partnering with the Colorado Municipal League (CML) on the HEAL Cities & Towns Campaign. Through this partnership we are working statewide on local policies that increase the availability of healthy eating and active living to Colorado residents.
LiveWell Colorado is proud to be a sponsor of Denver B-cycle, the country’s largest municipal bike sharing program. B-cycles create greater bike access for residents and visitors, getting people out of their cars and experiencing the city through active transportation‚Äîa solution that contributes to obesity prevention.
GO, SLOW, WHOA
LiveWell Colorado, KMGH Channel 7, and Aurora Public Schools have partnered on a program focused on improving children’s healthy eating. The program, called Go, Slow, Whoa, was developed by the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute to help kids identify healthy foods. The program includes community outreach initiatives, public service announcements and news stories focused on teaching families how to identify the foods they are eating as GO, SLOW or WHOA. (GO Foods: Eat almost anytime; SLOW Foods: Eat sometimes; WHOA Foods: Eat only once in a while or for special occasions.) Visit Channel 7 for GO SLOW WHOA tips and videos.
LiveWell Colorado launched the EatWell@School Cooking Competition with Denver Public Schools high school students to raise awareness of the importance of healthy eating at school. The 2010 competition culminated with a fundraising luncheon December 8, 2010, to honor the student competitors and raise funds for LiveWell Colorado’s ongoing mission of promoting healthy eating and active living.
