LiveWell Colorado is committed to reducing health disparities issues related to nutrition, physical activity and obesity.

Statewide Initiatives
LiveWell Colorado supports programming that targets the root causes of health disparities and their impact on healthy eating and active living.  This organization is committed to fostering cultural competency among our staff members, partners decision-makers and grantees.

  • Bringing Health Disparities into Public Policies and Practices
    This template for initiating and expanding dialogue was developed by the Colorado Institute of Public Policy.  
  • CDPHE Office of Health Disparities
    The Office of Health Disparities is a state program dedicated to eliminating health disparities in Colorado.  
  • Connecting Colorado: Overcoming the Disconnects that Lead to Health Disparities
    This policy brief from the Colorado Institute of Public Policy discusses health disparities in Colorado.  
  • The Denver Womens' Commission's Resource Guide for Monolingual Spanish-Speaking Women
    This guide provides a listing of services and programs available to monolingual Spanish-speaking women in the City and County of Denver.  
  • Income, Education and Obesity: A Closer Look at Inequities in Colorado's Obesity Problem
    An extension of The Colorado Health Foundation's 2008 Colorado Health Report Card, this special report focuses on the growing problem of obesity and the strong connection between obesity and socioeconomic factors.
  • Platica/Conversation to Promote Latino Health Resource Guide
    This guide details Colorado organizations who provide health resources for Latinos. The guide’s intent is to list organizations working in different health areas that provide direct services or assist clients in seeking health prevention or health delivery resources. Readers should contact each organization to find out about available resources, eligibility requirements, costs and other needed information.

National Resources:

  • CDC's Racial and Ethnic Approaches to Community Health (REACH)-Community-based strategies
    The REACH program has produced significant improvements in reducing health disparities in communities across the nation.  
  • The Importance of Culture in Evaluation: A Practical Guide for Evaluators
    This guide offers advice and resources for performing a culturally competent evaluation of programming.  
  • National Center for Cultural Competence
    The mission of the National Center for Cultural Competence (NCCC) is to increase the capacity of health and mental health programs to design, implement, and evaluate culturally and linguistically competent service delivery systems.  
  • 2007 National Healthcare Quality Report and Disparities Reports
    These reports, produced by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, measure trends in effectiveness of care, patient safety, timeliness of care, patient centeredness, and efficiency of care. The reports present, in chart form, the latest available findings on quality of and access to health care.  
  • National Latino Children’s Institute
    The National Latino Children’s Institute (NLCI) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Its mission is to focus the nation’s attention on Latino children and empower communities for the full and healthy development of young Latinos in a culturally relevant environment.  
  • Prevention Institute - Community Health and Health Disparities
    This website provides information and resources for improving health equity.
