Thank you to all who contributed to the success of this year’s Engage in the Change luncheon

On October 10, 2017, hundreds of community members, partners, funders, and allies sat in a room together, shared a meal, and were inspired to take action around a common goal – creating equitable access to healthy food and active living for ALL Coloradans. We had the privilege of hearing from Ron Finley, who kicked off his presentation with a poem of his own creation. Ron’s words, included below, serve as a reminder for why LiveWell does this work.

Special thanks to the top sponsors of this year’s event: Montbello Organizing Committee, The Colorado Trust, and Delta Dental of Colorado Foundation. Big change requires big commitment and none of us can do it alone. Your gifts, combined with so many others, have the power to create lifelong impact. This is how change happens!

Thank you for your support. Please consider partnering with LiveWell Colorado through a monthly pledge. For those that were not able to attend the luncheon in person, please take a look at the Breaking Down Barriers and Building Up Community video that premiered at the event:

Poem by Ron Finley:

Oh Say Can You See?
Hell naw I can’t see, because you just cracked me in my head
for standing up for my rights
And the blood that is gallantly streaming from the wound is blinding my
Naw I can’t see!
My country tis of thee sweet land of liberty
Land where my fathers died, home where my babies cried
We were brought here in chains and we still endure those pains.
I thought I lived in the land of the free and the home of the brave.
But somehow or another I still feel like a slave.
We fought your wars. We’ve cleaned your floors.
So we continue to knock at your door. . . . .That you have yet to
answer. . . . .
Sweet land of liberty, what have you given to thee?
Years of hope and your forearm or a noose around my throat!
America, America god shed his grace on thee.
But somehow or another you seem to have forgot about me.
Hell to the Naw I can’t See!
You redline me, oh say can you see the detriment you have brought unto
You criminalize and demonized my looks,
You remove me from your books
But still I Rize, Still I Rize! To claim the prize
That was promised to me
By the powers that be
Equal Rights, Jobs, and Liberty!
Hell Naw I Can’t See!!
