It may seem like school just started, but now is the time to begin planning activities for Walk to School Day, which has been scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 8! (You can choose another day in the month to celebrate, if that works better for your school’s schedule.) The goal of this promotion is to encourage walking and biking to school on this day, this month and throughout the year.

It's Not Too Late to Register for Walk to School Day 2014To help you plan your Walk to School Day activities, we’ve developed a Pinterest board with links to resources, tips and planning guides. That information is available for free at: www.pinterest.com/livewellco/walk-to-school-day/. You can also contact Leslie Feuerborn at dot_srts@state.co.us for more information or copies of posters and other Walk to School Day materials.

On Walk to School Day—and leading up to it—we encourage you to use the hashtag #cowalk2school on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to collectively tag all Colorado Walk to School Day efforts. There will even be a social media photo contest with three randomly chosen $25 gift card winners from all Walk to School Day photos tagged #cowalk2school.

Finally, if your school is planning to participate in Walk to School Day, please register at www.walkbiketoschool.org. By doing so and then reporting your Walk to School Day participation numbers, your school will be entered into a random drawing to win one of three $250 mini-grants to be used to continue Safe Routes to School encouragement and education.

We look forward to hearing your Walk to School Day stories and seeing your #cowalk2school photos on social media!
