Senator Michael Bennet’s Colorado Office Director and Denver Public Schools Board member joins statewide nonprofit board

Rosemary RodriguezDENVER — April 21, 2016 — Rosemary Rodriguez has been named to the board of directors for LiveWell Colorado. She will begin her appointment in November.

“We are honored to have Rosemary Rodriguez join the LiveWell Colorado board of directors,” said Chairman of the Board John Hopkins, R.Ph., former CEO of Rocky Mountain Health Plans. “She is a tremendous leader whose mission and values mirror those of LiveWell Colorado.”

Rosemary Rodriguez currently serves as the director of U.S. Senator Michael Bennet’s Colorado office. In addition to her Senate responsibilities, she has represented Southwest Denver on the Denver Public Schools Board of Education since 2013.

“I’m particularly invested in serving on the board of directors for LiveWell Colorado because I believe strongly in eliminating health disparities and advancing health equity,” said Rodriguez. “Working in partnership with obesity prevention initiatives across the state, LiveWell Colorado exists to help provide every Coloradan with access to healthy foods and opportunities for physical activities.”

Rodriguez has been with Senator Bennet’s office following two years on the U.S. Election Assistance Commission (EAC) where she served as its Chair in 2008. She was appointed to the EAC by President George W. Bush and was unanimously confirmed by the U.S. Senate.

Prior to the EAC, she served for three years on the Denver, Colorado City Council, where she was its President from 2005 to 2006. She served in the Mayor’s office from 1992 to 2003 in a variety of positions, including as the first Latina Clerk and Recorder for the City and County of Denver and as Deputy Director of the Mayor’s Office of Arts, Culture & Film. Prior to her public service in the City & County of Denver, Rosemary co-founded the Hispanic League where she played an instrumental role in achieving election and other policy reforms on behalf of underrepresented minority communities.

Rodriguez has been active in numerous grass roots civic and voter advocacy organizations at the local, state and national level. She is a mentor for countless Latinas both formally and, informally, through her acclaimed Friday “Cafecito” coffee group, where Latinas gather for networking and support. She joins the LiveWell Colorado board to serve alongside other distinguished community members, including Hopkins, Neil Bertrand, Thomas Currigan, Barbara Grogan, Jim Garcia, Kurt Kennedy, Andrew Ritz, Paul Tamburello, Reginald Washington and Ann King White.
