LiveWell Colorado’s mission is to increase access to healthy eating and active living by removing barriers that inequitably and disproportionately affect low-income communities and people of color.
Our policy agenda reflects this commitment. LiveWell works at the local, state and national level to advance a comprehensive policy agenda that supports a sustainable, equitable and health-promoting food system, as well as an accessible and equitable active living and transportation environment.
Our policy agenda is informed by partners across Colorado, including community coalitions, individuals passionate about HEAL, local, state and national organizations, and other policy experts. In 2018, we are working to ensure that:
• Proposals to increase transportation funding include dedicated dollars for pedestrian and bike infrastructure and that increased funding comes from a new, sustainable source;
• State dollars cover the $0.40 per meal that middle and high school students receiving reduced-price lunch currently pay, bringing them on par with students in pre-kindergarten through 5th grade whose reduced price portion is already covered by the state.
• State dollars are allocated to support healthy food incentive programs; and
• Improving capacity of the Colorado Food Systems Advisory Council to support and strengthen Colorado’s food system infrastructure by improving access to healthy foods, developing economic opportunities for Colorado producers, and strengthening local and regional food systems.
