SYNOPSIS

This ordinance, which seeks to preserve and foster local, small-scale farming and food processing, exempts direct (local) farm sales from state and federal licensing and inspection requirements. The ordinance also exempts foods made in home kitchens, similar to the Michigan Cottage Food Law passed in 2010, but without caps on gross sales or restrictions on types of exempt foods.
