Denver Urban Gardens

Scare Crow DUGThe mission of Denver Urban Gardens is to come together alongside residents, and grow community – one urban garden at a time. Denver Urban Gardens was established in 1985 to support Denver residents in creating sustainable food-producing community gardens. The organization offers neighborhoods the essential resources for community gardens, including ongoing technical expertise.

Denver Urban Gardens’ LiveWell Colorado initiative began in 2005 and consisted of a series of garden-based strategies designed to promote healthy lifestyles in three diverse low-income neighborhoods in West Denver: Baker, La Alma/Lincoln Park, and Sun Valley. The initiative addressed the socio-economic barriers to accessing healthy, affordable food and nutrition and gardening education. While its funding from LiveWell has ended, Denver Urban Gardens continues to provide technical assistance to other LiveWell Communities in areas such as school based gardens and youth and community farmers markets.
