Globeville Elyria-Swansea LiveWell

GES Cover PhotoGlobeville Elyria-Swansea (GES) LiveWell began in July 2011 to increase affordable and safe access to healthy food and active living in Denver’s Globeville and Elyria-Swansea neighborhoods. Its mission is to unite residents and community leaders to create transformative change for a diverse, sustainable, and active neighborhood life. Coalition partners include Cooking Matters, the City and County of Denver, GrowHaus, Bird Seed Collaborative, Denver Public Schools, and many other local organizations.

GES LiveWell prioritizes connecting residents to economic opportunity as a means of increasing access to healthy food and physical activity through several innovative programs and partnerships. Its organizing model employs residents as “community connectors” to gauge community members’ interests, identify leaders, and promote meaningful resident participation. Key areas of focus include increasing access to healthy food, improving parks and recreation spaces, and enhancing the built environment to encourage walking, biking, and public transportation.
