LiveWell Huerfano County was formed in July 2011 to address concerns surrounding issues such as affordable access to healthy food, farmers markets, community recreation, safe biking and walking infrastructure, and education around healthy food preparation. The group’s mission is to provide the means and motivation to support healthy eating and active living in Huerfano County. Coalition members include the City of Walsenburg, Cooking Matters, and the La Veta and Huerfano RE-1 School Districts.
LiveWell Huerfano County’s work is particularly focused on improving healthy food access through its partnerships with the District One farmer’s market in Walsenburg and Cooking Matters. The coalition has also invested in increasing capacity for alternative transportation by collaborating with CDOT to improve biking and walking safety, especially in high-traffic areas and along commuter routes.
