Steps to a Healthier Pueblo was formed in 2004 through the Steps to a Healthier US initiative. As funding for this federal initiative ended in 2008, the Pueblo City-County Health Department program received funding from LiveWell Colorado to continue its efforts. What began as a leadership committee of 20 organizations grew to a 60-member coalition supporting access to affordable healthy food and a built environment that supports active living.
Initial strategies developed by the coalition focused on school wellness, active transportation, and access to healthy food. Since the completion of its funding, Pueblo has maintained a strong partnership with LiveWell Colorado. The City of Pueblo joined LiveWell’s HEAL Cities & Towns Campaign in 2014 and is a member of the Colorado Food Policy Network.
