The funding for this collective came from a GSK IMPACT grant, a national initiative to examine the barriers and identify opportunities to build healthier communities. Denver was chosen because while it is consistently ranked as one of the healthiest cities, childhood obesity is a growing concern, especially in the neighborhoods where this project is focused: Globeville, Elyria-Swansea and Northeast Denver.

The members of the collective included LiveWell Colorado, Share Our Strength, Cooking Matters Colorado, Boys and Girls Club of Metro Denver, LiveWell Northeast Denver, Globeville Elyria-Swansea LiveWell, Earth Force, the Denver Metro Chamber Leadership Foundation, and Spark Policy Institute. Throughout the 18-month partnership, LiveWell Colorado was the “backbone organization,” serving as the fiscal agent and facilitating the collaboration.

The Collective has been highly successful in fostering a healthier community in ways that can be replicated in other communities throughout Colorado and across the country.
