HEAL Network

Healthy Eating Active Living (HEAL) Network

The HEAL Network strives to improve child health status in Colorado by advancing healthy eating and active living (HEAL) policies. The HEAL Network will focus on state-level policy to achieve its mission, working on proposals that will advance the indicators of success and opposing proposals that could move the state in the wrong direction. The HEAL Network is not focused on programmatic approaches, and everything the Network addresses should be clearly related to one of the five indicators.

Healthy Eating:

  • Increase the number of kids who eat five or more servings of fruits and vegetables per day from 17% to 25%.
  • Decrease the percent of families who are food insecure (those who rely on low-cost food) from 31% to 25%.
  • Decrease consumption of sugar sugary drinks by 8%.

Active Living:

  • Increase the percent of kids who bike and walk to and from school every day from 30% to 50%.
  • Increase number of kids getting physical activity seven days per week 60 minutes per day from 45% to 55%

These indicators of success were selected based on the best available data and are intended to be achievable in the next five years.
